Having lived in Thailand now for almost six years, I was ready for someplace a little different from the norm. It is difficult and in my opinion not a really wise idea to buy a house here so I choose to rent. My new house rents for less than an average apartment in the U.S.
There are some trials and tribulations involved, and one must be prepared for Thai style and customs, but the benefits far outweigh the problems. Here is a tour of my "new" home.......
I share the fruits with them and it makes them quite happy....
.....what would I do with all of these?
This is the mess that was left by the caretaker when we moved in. He cooked and bathed out here. After clearing this area I had what I called the "path to nowhere".........
So I decided to have this built.....
These thatched roofed huts are popular in parks and restaurants. Outdoor restaurants will have maybe half a dozen of these where people sit and eat their dinners....
The finished product with my hammock in place and a great jungle setting with the huge bamboo and banana trees behind.
Most home here have a "spirit house". This house is blessed and gives the wandering spirits a place to reside so they do not come into your home. In blessing it we were told we had to make an offering of rice, water and whiskey...They didn't drink much.
We started fixing up our little corner.....
.....looking forward to relaxing under the trees and multitude of birds that lived there.
Within just a week of completing my hut my neighbor decided it was time to clear and fill his land with plans of putting in another house as soon as he could afford it. Just my luck! He is not a bad guy (German) and promised he is going to re-landscape the lot first. Still, it sure killed my "jungle corner" for now.
