Having lived in Thailand now for almost six years, I was ready for someplace a little different from the norm. It is difficult and in my opinion not a really wise idea to buy a house here so I choose to rent. My new house rents for less than an average apartment in the U.S.
There are some trials and tribulations involved, and one must be prepared for Thai style and customs, but the benefits far outweigh the problems. Here is a tour of my "new" home.......
It doesn't take long during the rainy season for nature to catch back up. This is taken Nov. 1, just 3 months later.
It's a great time of the year. The rains have stopped, everything is green and lush.
.....and my "jungle corner" is back. I spend a couple hours a day before sundown in this spot every chance I get reading or "relaxing" (aka snoozing).
One of the amazing things here is how fast nature changes. This is the lot at the other end of my house when we moved in the first of June, the end of the hot/dry season.
Just over a month later having entered the rainy season nature has taken over. It shouldn't take long for the other lot to again turn green also.
July 11, I came outside and found this in my yard. Although I don't have an actual photo from that day, she was tired, covered with fur, burs, and fleas and obviously not well.
She didn't leave after two days so we asked around the village and the temple if anyone had seen her before. It is not uncommon for people to abandon unwanted pets at the temples and expect the monks to care for them. There are literally thousands of stray dogs that wander the cities and villages.
I said I would not have another dog here as it crimps your ability to just take off and travel, among other things, but I guess I am just a sucker. I couldn't just throw her back out in the street (at least that is my excuse).
I knew that hot tub would come in handy for something. A little clean up, a trip to the doggy barber and some antibiotics and vaccines from the vet and she has a clean bill of health......
