Having lived in Thailand now for almost six years, I was ready for someplace a little different from the norm. It is difficult and in my opinion not a really wise idea to buy a house here so I choose to rent. My new house rents for less than an average apartment in the U.S.
There are some trials and tribulations involved, and one must be prepared for Thai style and customs, but the benefits far outweigh the problems. Here is a tour of my "new" home.......
Hot Season-
It is April and we are well into the hot season. 100 F is not unusual and we have gone for months without rain.
After having to put out a fire on this land next to my house, which was competely overgrown, and complaints from the village chief, the owners finally had it cleared.
I added a water pump from the river and made my own sprinkling system which has helped keep things relatively green.
The trees are now starting to bloom in anticipation of the wet season, which should be here in another month or two. A few early unseasonable rain storms have aided in the watering.
There should be many more plants this season and it should be quite a nice mini-jungle around the property.
I installed 2 sprinklers approximately 8 feet off the ground which gives a sense of rain coming down all around my hut whenever I want it. A true "rainforest" atmoshere.
So now in the sweltering heat, I contemplate the spirits of the spirit house.....
.......grab a book, a drink, and my dog, and think "Life isn't so bad afterall".
